The Spanish wine region of Ribera del Duero is located in northern Spain’s Castilla y León region, just a 2-hour drive from Madrid. While winemaking in this area goes back more than 2000 years, it was in the 1980s that 9 wineries applied for and were granted Denominación de Origen (D.O.) status. Today, more than 300 wineries call Ribera del Duero home.
Bodegas Vega de Yuso was established in 2002 by Ruben Iglesias Barredo, the current owner and winemaker. Vega de Yuso currently has 20 hectares of Tempranillo vineyards nestled in the best sites of Quintanilla de Onesimo, Olivares De Duero and Valbuena de Duero. The altitude can reach 900m here and the vines are low-yielding, with parcels of 50 year old vines.
Tasting Notes:
Named after a medieval "snow well" (or "Pozo de Nieve") found on their property - Pozo de Nieve is their youngest wine. Aged 4 months in used 80% American and 20% French Oak, the wine is structured and balanced with ripe plum and black cherry flavors and a profound mouthfeel.
